Woman breastfeeding an infant

Recent studies and observations show that young mothers are breastfeeding for shorter and shorter periods. They are switching very quickly to bottle-feeding in order to be able to return to work, to spend more time outside the home and to avoid the so-called on-demand feeding. This is not a good approach. Breastfeeding is all about the benefits, not only for the baby but also for the mother. So before deciding to wean the baby, it is advisable to talk to a specialist and listen to their advice.

What are the advantages of breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding for as long as possible has many advantages, not only for the baby but also for the mother herself. There is no doubt that breastfeeding from the mother is very nutritious (it contains all the components necessary for the proper development of the baby), immunological, reduces the incidence of various illnesses, susceptibility to infections, is easily digestible (it does not cause constipation or other problems in the digestive tract) and importantly reduces the risk of allergies.

When a baby drinks its mother's milk, it does not feel thirsty. During sucking the baby exercises the muscles of the face and mouth. This is a process that is very important for the correct physical and psychological development of the baby. Breastfeeding also has a great impact on the mother because, among other things: it leads to faster contraction of the uterus, reduces the intensity of genital bleeding, reduces the risk of anaemia or post-natal haemorrhage. Young mothers who breastfeed are quicker to shed excessive pregnancy weight.

Every woman decides for herself about the nutrition, treatment and upbringing of her baby. However, if you are unsure about your decisions, it is worth contacting a specialist.
