Symptoms and courseAllergic rhinosinusitis, or allergic rhinitis, is a disease that is occurring with increasing frequency. Its main cause is an allergic reaction of the nasal mucosa to contact with a specific allergen. The condition is divided into intermittent, otherwise known as seasonal or occasional (symptoms last less than four weeks), and chronic, known as long-term or year-round (symptoms last longer than four weeks). A new classification of this disease has now been established, which divides it into mild, moderate and severe.
The patient is classified into a particular group on the basis of the discomfort they experience, its severity and duration. How they affect the quality of life of the affected person is also taken into account.

Causes and symptoms of allergic rhinosinusitis
The division of allergic rhinosinusitis is as follows:
- Mild form, in which the symptoms are verymild, not troublesome for the patient and, importantly, do not interfere with the functioning of daily life (both during the day and at night).
- Themoderate and severe forms, are very similar to each other. The symptoms prevent the patient from functioning normally, lead to sleep problems and interfere with daytime activities. The sufferer requires ongoing, comprehensive treatment.
The causes leading to the development of intermittent allergic rhinosinusitis include pollen; in the chronic form, they include dander, house dust mites, moulds and others.
The characteristic symptoms of this condition are:
- sneezing,
- tearing and itching of the eyes,
- itching,
- nasal obstruction,
- watery discharge from the nose,
- redness of the eyes,
- discharge from the nose through the nostrils into the nasopharynx,
- a feeling of permanent nasal blockage.
Many patients also complain of headache and eye pain, problems with smell and taste (loss), blocked ears and swollen throat. If you notice the symptoms described above and others accompanying them, you should see an ENT specialist as soon as possible. This disease always requires treatment, which in many cases is lengthy.
