Symptoms and course lower lip cancer

Carcinoma of the lower lip is more common in men (a characteristic feature of head cancers). Sclerosis or ulceration within the lip is the first sign of cancer. People who smoke and are exposed to sunlight are at risk of developing lower lip cancer.

It progresses slowly, locally and the prognosis is fairly good. Excessive keratosis of the lip, white keratosis (leukoplakia) are changes that should worry the patient and refer them to the doctor. They are classified as precancerous conditions.
