Very often it happens that our child comes back from kindergarten or school and complains of pain, itching or pinching of the eyes. Very often this can be accompanied by redness or purulent discharge in the corner of the eye. There can be many causes for this - from trauma, scratches or rubbing of the eyes by the child. Viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites very often attack the eyes of our children, resulting in infection.
Symptoms and course conjunctivitis in children
It is very common for children to develop all sorts of infectious eye conditions. It is not difficult, especially when playing in the kindergarten, running around outside, playing ball or playing in the sandpit. If our child has a red and irritated eye, it is most likely that we are dealing with conjunctivitis. This is caused by viruses or bacteria. It is also important to note that it occurs during upper respiratory infections and during a runny nose. If you notice any worrying symptoms in your child, you should visit an ophthalmologist. Treatment (eye drops or ointments) should be administered according to the ophthalmologist's recommendations.
When to go to the doctor and treat conjunctivitis in children
A child's eye pain, itching, pinching, redness, congestion or visible discharge should never be underestimated. If your child complains of poor vision, no vision at all or a headache, you should see an ophthalmologist or go to the emergency room immediately. This may be a sign that the eye is seriously damaged.
Treatment conjunctivitis in children
We should also remember that inflammation of the conjunctiva or sclerosis on the child's eye requires specialist treatment. Otherwise serious complications may result.
