Exudative otitis is a very serious condition that always requires specialist treatment. It is a very devious condition as we do not always know that we are dealing with it. What do we know about exudative otitis media?

Exudative otitis media is an inflammatory disease of the middle ear in which fluid builds up in the eardrum cavity. There are many causes of this disease from allergies to nasal polyps, hypertrophy of the pharyngeal meatus, upper respiratory tract infections, cleft palate, a history of acute otitis media or sinusitis.
Symptoms characteristic of exudative otitis include ear pain, dizziness, fever, tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ear, eye pain, cheek pain, hearing problems, a feeling of water in the ear, nausea, vomiting and a feeling of being unwell.

The disease is diagnosed by pneumatic otoscopy or typanometry. Many doctors also perform tonal audiometry. In many cases, the inflammation regresses spontaneously up to three months. The patient is given anti-inflammatory drugs, decongestants and mucolytic agents. If these methods are not effective, it is necessary to place a ventilation drain.
