Medical assistance to older people

Immunodeficiencies, also in all individuals, are defined as a variety of conditions that result from a malfunction/failure of the immune (immune) system. In general, immunodeficiencies are divided into primary and secondary.

Symptoms and course immunodeficiencies

As we age, our immunity becomes weaker, making us more susceptible to illnesses and their course is longer and more troublesome. These diseases also have a tendency to recur.

What impact does age have on immune deficiencies?

As we grow older, our immunity level decreases. Older people are more susceptible to various infections (viral, bacterial, fungal) and the course of the infection is often more severe and longer. In a particular way, the immunity of older people is also weakened by immunosuppressive treatment, e.g. in the case of cancerous diseases of the circulatory system or autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus), but also in the case of diseases such as renal failure and diabetes.

Environmental factors also have a major impact on lowering immunity and have been shown by scientific studies to significantly impair the efficient and correct functioning of the immune system. These factors include, for example, various chemical compounds, heavy metals or ionising radiation. In the case of immune disorders and deficiencies in the elderly, it is also worth mentioning inadequate nutrition, frequent use of antibiotics, exhaustion and stress.
