Symptoms and course parkinson's disease

It is not uncommon for patients to react with fear upon learning of the diagnosis. In order for the disease to progress more slowly, the patient should take part in regular physical rehabilitation classes. It is also advisable to undergo analgesic treatments (xylocaine and hydrocortisone iontophoresis), warm-ups and massages.

How to deal with:

tremor:

  • try to relax mentally,
  • sit down, relax your shoulders, neck and back, breathe calmly,
  • attend regular massages,
  • avoid caffeine and alcohol,
  • don't strain yourself, rest frequently.

gait disturbances:

  • walk slowly,
  • keep feet at a comfortable distance,
  • stand up straight with your head held high,
  • take long steps,
  • use low-heeled shoes,

falls:

  • remove rugs and other walking obstacles from your home,
  • hold on to handrails,
  • do not reach for things too high,
  • sit for a while before getting up from a lying position,
  • when you feel unsteady on your balance, stop or sit down.

pain:

  • use massage, warm baths, warming treatments,
  • massage painful points,
  • exercise daily,
  • when hands and feet are cold, wear gloves and warm socks.

dressing:

  • wear simple clothes, blouses, jumpers, elastic trousers,
  • wear shoes with Velcro fastenings,
  • dress sitting down.

writing:

  • write with a bold pen,
  • occasionally straighten your elbow, wiggle your fingers,
  • use a computer.

speech difficulties:

  • take a breath before you speak,
  • pause after a few words,
  • make clear mouth movements when speaking,
  • speak frequently, even to yourself.

swallowing difficulties:

  • take very small portions of food into your mouth, bite thoroughly,
  • always swallow what is in your mouth before you take another bite,
  • drink frequently,
  • take your time when eating.
