We should remember that improper whitening of teeth may lead to their hypersensitivity, bleeding from teeth during brushing, gum pain or irritation. It is also worth remembering that there are certain contraindications to tooth whitening.
Contraindications for tooth whitening
Teeth whitening is aimed at improving not only their appearance, but also our well-being. Before deciding to whiten your teeth, you should visit your dentist. It is necessary to repair any cavities and lesions in the mouth. Very often, before the whitening procedure, deposits and tartar must be removed from the teeth.
It is worth remembering that there are certain contraindications to teeth whitening, the most common of which are the following:
- too young age of the patient, usually before 18 years of age (the decision is made by the dentist),
- hypersensitivity of teeth,
- hypersensitivity of the gums,
- inflammation of the gums,
- untreated teeth (e.g. with caries or other damage),
- poor oral hygiene,
- pregnancy,
- feeding the baby after birth,
- allergies that may develop to whitening agents,
- taking certain medications,
- long-term, continuous smoking,
- persons suffering from certain diseases, should also not whiten their teeth.
The decision, whether or not it is possible, should be made by the patient in the presence of the dentist. If there are any contraindications to tooth whitening, the procedure should be abandoned.
