Wisdom teeth (eights), bear their name from the period in which they appear (from 17 to 26 years of age), i.e. during adolescence. However, this is individual to each person, with some people appearing around the age of 30 or even 40. In most cases, we associate them with visits to the dentist, pain and surgical procedures.
Symptoms and course wisdom tooth pain
Why do eights give us so much pain?
Wisdom teeth emerge as the last human teeth. Importantly, their absence in no way hinders our normal and efficient chewing of food. In most cases, their appearance leads to such problems.
The role of the eights is, like that of the molars, to crush and chew food. They fit into the dental arch with great difficulty, so the process of their eruption is never correct (they change their position, twist, do not erupt completely). This is the cause of the pain experienced.
In many cases, patients decide to have their wisdom teeth removed. This is associated with pain not only in the tooth, but also in the gums and the discomfort felt when eating. These teeth also have a tendency to decay and squeeze other teeth, which is another reason to have them removed. Teeth that have not erupted completely, but only partially, are also removed, and such a condition is related to the fact that food residues, bacteria, deposits, etc. accumulate under the surrounding gums, which causes inflammation to develop. It is also not possible to brush this area thoroughly when brushing the teeth.
When to go to the doctor and treating wisdom tooth pain
If you have any problems with your wisdom teeth, it is worth seeing your dentist for advice. A decision will then be made together as to the further fate of our "wisdom tooth".
