Aphthous ulcers affect around 20% of the population, representing a problem with an aetiology that is not fully understood. Erythema causes severe pain, restricting the ability to eat, drink and even sometimes speak. Due to their location and unknown aetiology, symptomatic treatment is used to reduce pain and speed up healing.
