Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumour in women. It is estimated to account for 18% of all malignant tumours and one million new cases are diagnosed each year worldwide. Regular screening and early diagnosis are therefore extremely important. Cancer detected early enough is very often completely curable. What is more, if the diagnosis is made quickly, it is not always necessary to amputate the breast, and treatment can be limited to resection of the tumour only and follow-up treatment.
