Chest pain in children is a common complaint. Based on my own experience, I can say that almost every time I was on duty in the Hospital Emergency Department, I had to deal with one or two patients presenting for this reason. It is one of the most common causes of cardiology consultations in children. It causes a great deal of anxiety for both parents and the children themselves, most people associating it with a heart attack. Despite this, it is rarely indicative of a serious disorder, and even more rarely is it caused by a cardiovascular complaint.
