Acquired familial adenomatous polyposis(ALPP) is a disease on which colorectal cancer develops. The characteristic feature of this disease entity is polypoid lesions in the colonic mucosa. The number of adenomas can reach up to a thousand lesions. It usually manifests itself before the age of 15. In the absence of early diagnosis and recognition, almost all patients develop cancer. The following cancers are associated with ALPP: thyroid cancer, pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer and brain tumours. If ALPP is diagnosed, a prophylactic colectomy (removal of the large bowel) is performed.
