Among the wide range of depressive symptoms, suicidal thoughts also occur, often associated with a reduction in the patient's quality of life and subjective feelings of distress. Factors that increase the risk of suicide among depressed patients are persistent mood depressions, feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness and a high awareness of their illness.
