The effect of hormonal contraception on the process of carcinogenesis is still a controversial issue and research is still being conducted in this direction. The lack of conclusive data on this subject is due, among other things, to the fact that there are a large number of factors that can influence the initiation of cancer, or to the too short period of follow-up of women using modern hormonal contraception.
Given the rapid progress of medicine towards the search for hormonal contraceptive methods that are increasingly safe for the body without compromising high efficacy, there are a large number of modern preparations on the market for which there are no data on possible long-term benefits or adverse effects, due to the relatively short duration of therapy.
Undoubtedly, the medical community as well as scientists are monitoring the safety as well as efficacy data of these methods. The inconclusive results of studies on the correlation between hormonal contraception and the formation of cancer compel close monitoring of women using this form of pregnancy prevention. Every woman using hormonal contraception should be informed by her doctor how important it is for her health to have regular check-ups to detect possible early lesions and undertake appropriate treatment to prevent the development of cancer.
