Every one of us dreams of looking beautiful and feminine on a daily basis. Often we are hampered by the extra centimetres deposited in our hips or on our once flat stomach. What's the best way to make the mantra "I need to lose a few kilos" a reality? "Use the method of small steps-?"- writes Kasia Cichopek in her guide "Eat, lose weight and enjoy yourself!" Don't jump in at the deep end straight away - first, before you start radically changing your diet, make a thorough plan. Consider whether you're just at the point in life where you can really focus more on your needs."

Start a weight diary

Did you know that writing a diary helps you shed pounds? Of course, it's not about writing down notes like: "today happened to me", but about making a detailed note of everything you ate that day. In my experience, this kind of journaling can be tedious and boring at first: you have to write down every extra bite of yeasty bread your friend gave you, every potato chip your husband took from the packet or every spoonful of ice cream you stole from your child's portion. But it is only by being so meticulous that you will finally be able to see clearly how, when and what you are feeding your stomach. Such a nutrition diary will also help you learn to eat consciously and rationally. Writing down the dishes you have eaten is only the beginning. Once you have implemented keeping your diary, it is worthwhile for you to reflect every day while you are taking notes on what mood you were in when you ate that forbidden bar or what happened to make you feel a real big hunger in the evening.

Take notes too:

-- How long after waking up do you eat breakfast?

-- How many meals do you eat during the day?

-- Do you manage to include vegetables and fruit in each meal?

-- How many times a week do you eat meat for lunch?

-- How much water do you drink per day (this means pure water, not milk, coffee, tea or juices)?

-- How often do you drink coffee?

-- What mood were you in after eating lunch/dinner?

-- How much sweets do you eat during the day?
