Pregnancy check-ups

In vitro fertilisation, nowadays, gives many couples the chance to have their own offspring. In Poland, an estimated 700 children are born annually thanks to medically assisted reproduction techniques.

The care of the woman after in vitro fertilisation, in addition to the current standards for naturally conceived pregnancies, should also include the ongoing care of the medically assisted reproduction team. If the pregnancy is singleton, it is extremely important to control the growth of the foetus in the uterus, as there is a high risk of stunting. To prevent this, appropriate hormonal supplementation is used up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. In the case of multiple pregnancies, it is necessary to increase the frequency of the obstetric examination with cervical assessment, to perform a Medical US examination to assess the progress of fetal growth every four weeks, to carry out prenatal tests (to diagnose possible genetic defects in the fetus, due to the increased risk associated with in vitro fertilisation or in the case of suspected defects during the Medical US examination).

It is also important to remember to inform the patient of the possibilities or indications for the delivery itself and to ensure that the patient is able to benefit from the incapacity to work due to the nature of the pregnancy."[1]
