Progesterone is a hormone that plays a role not only in a woman's normal reproductive function.

The intravaginal method recognised is convenient for patients and effective. There are few side effects. Absorption can be modified depending on the degree of oestrogenisation. It is also important whether the woman has used a cream, globule, gel-based preparation, etc. Maximum concentration is obtained after approximately 3-8 hours. Progesterone administered in this form is removed from the serum more rapidly than when administered intramuscularly.

Another important aspect in the supply of progesterone is to reduce the rate of preterm births. These complications can affect up to 5-15% of pregnancies. Studies have shown that in women given progesterone, the percentage of these complications decreased. There was a decrease in the number of women giving birth before 36 weeks gestation, as well as a smaller number of newborns born with a weight of less than 2,500g.

It is believed that a more stable serum progesterone concentration is observed after vaginal application. Comparing the intravenous form with the oral form, the intravenous form is considered to be more effective as the embryo implantation rate was then 40.9% compared with 18.1% in the oral supply.
