Intussusception is the displacement (insertion) of part of the intestine into another part of the intestine. The largest group of patients affected by this pathology are infants with a peak incidence between 3 and 8 months of age. The most common symptom is severe pain of a wavy nature, with pain-free periods. Diagnosis and rapid recognition can be problematic, especially in children under one year of age.
