It has this form and is prepared in such a way that it can be easily inserted into the vagina. The menstrual cup, like sanitary pads and tampons, is used to collect secretions and blood, with the difference that cups do not absorb these secretions, but store them in a reservoir.

In addition, cups are designed to be reusable - once removed, it can be emptied and reused. The history of menstrual cups dates back to 1932 when the first one was patented. Larger-scale production began in 1960, but attempts to market them failed. It was not until 1987 that the sale of cups made great headway in the USA. Initially, menstrual cups were rubber, but today they are made of silicone.

There are two types of menstrual cups:

  1. Soft, flexible, cup-like in appearance, they are made of polyethylene
  2. Soft and also flexible, cup-shaped, made of latex or silicone.
