Mental illness as a social role

In this text I introduce the category of social role and describe mental illness in this category. The framing of mental illness as a social role does not necessarily refer to the actual mental health of the individual, but to the conditions that determine interactions with role partners. The acceptance of the role of a person with mental illness thus depends not so much on the mental state, but on whether we ourselves accept the role or whether it is socially imposed on us.
