Children test their parents' reactions to certain behaviours every day. Importantly, they also test their resilience in this way. Unfortunately, with children it is the case that they pay attention to how their environment reacts to their behaviour and conduct. In most cases, the toddler transgresses the generally accepted norms in order to "amaze"/startle his/her audience, to arouse strong emotions or to defy his/her parents (e.g. to show his/her dissatisfaction, frustration or tiredness). One common behaviour is swearing. Why do children swear? Where do they learn to swear from? What should be done when a child uses profanity?
