Novelty seeking is a new term for a trend as old as our species. Man has always sought euphoric, often dangerous sensations.

Novelty seekers derive pleasure from sensations that are dangerous and too extreme for most people. Their state of mind resembles that of a drug addict after taking a strong dose of a drug. As with drug addicts, the state of euphoria is addictive.

Research has shown that this type of behaviour is caused by a mutation in the D4DR gene on chromosome 11. This is responsible for the strength with which a nerve cell responds to contact with dopamine. The mutated gene causes cells to respond more strongly after contact with dopamine.

Moreover, their "braking system" is faulty. The sense of longing for novelty is in every human being. However, the voice of reason is awakened in the majority. An organism that feels a constant need to feel pleasure tends to lose itself in it, and thus switches off its vigilance and becomes lazy.

In the environment, this is very dangerous. Therefore, it is better not to think about the constant feeling of pleasure, but to focus on things that are essential for survival.
