The spinal cord is H-shaped in cross-section, located in the spinal canal between the occipital and lumbar apertures. It is surrounded by the spinal meninges, between which is the cerebrospinal fluid. It has two very important functions, namely it is involved in the conduction of nerve impulses and contains the reflex centres.
