Bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) is characterised by two types of symptoms: depressive states (lack of desire to work, avoidance of contact with family and friends, sadness, depression) and states of mania (periods of excessive excitability, joy, euphoria, etc.). These states are also characterised by periods of remission, i.e. complete disappearance of symptoms or their suppression.
