The iris forms the tissue of the front layer of the middle part of the eyeball. It is made up of several layers of muscle fibres that dilate and constrict the pupil, making it act as a diaphragm. The eye is also a cluster of many blood vessels and at least 500,000 nerve fibres. According to iridologists, the iris is directly connected to our entire body through blood vessels and nerves. They believe that adverse events in our body are reflected in the appearance of our eyes and its surroundings.

What is iridology?

To begin with, it is worth taking a closer look at what iridology actually is. This is because it is a branch of alternative medicine dealing with the comprehensive assessment of health based on the appearance of the iris. This method was known as early as the time of Hippocrates, but only became known in Europe in the 19th century, or more precisely in 1861, thanks to the Hungarian physician Ignatz von Peczely, who, in self-defence after an owl attack, broke its leg and observed that in its eye, specifically within the iris, changes appeared which disappeared shortly after it was cured.

A great deal of information regarding susceptibility to disease can already be gleaned from the colour of the eyes themselves.

What disease predisposition a particular eye colour gives:

Blue - insomnia, hearing problems caused by being exposed to excessive noise, greater sensitivity to pain, depression, frequent mood swings, type 1 diabetes, arthritis and rheumatism, stomach and duodenal ulcers, allergies, kidney and thyroid disorders and respiratory diseases.
Dark - poor immunity and susceptibility to all infections.
Brown, beer-coloured - problems in the proper functioning of the cardiovascular and digestive systems, heart disease, liver disorders, tendency to overweight, anaemia, atherosclerosis, kidney stones and excessive bile production.
Green, grey - diseases from the genitourinary and digestive systems, problems with the pancreas, liver and kidneys, sensitivity to any changes in weather and atmospheric pressure.

Which changes in the eye area should you pay particular attention to?

Not only the appearance of the iris, but also the condition of the eyelids, pupils, conjunctiva and sclerae play an important role in iridological assessment . Any changes, swellings, spots, dots and lines can indicate a disease of a specific organ.

A swollen eyelid can be a sign of a malfunction of the excretory system, especially the kidneys. Tiny white or slightly yellow lumps on the eyelids may indicate high blood cholesterol levels.

Abnormal position and size of the pupils may indicate problems with the digestive system, especially the stomach. On the other hand, enlarged pupils may indicate neurosis or insomnia.

Reddening of the conjunctivae may indicate rheumatism, while yellowing of theconjunctivae may indicate liver problems and pallor may indicate anaemia.

Bluishor slightly blue sclerae may be a sign that your diet is lacking calcium, a deficiency of which can cause problems with bones, joints, joint cartilage and tooth decay.

If we notice anything worrying about the appearance of our eyes and their surroundings, it is worth seeing an iridologist, as this can prove to be a valuable clue that can improve our health and wellbeing.
