Autism spectrum disorders and personality disorders are two distinct groups of mental disorders. The former are associated with abnormalities present from early childhood, whilst the latter are linked to entrenched, maladaptive patterns of thinking and behaviour that develop later in life. Although autism and personality disorders differ in many ways, in practice they sometimes have a great deal in common.
