Venous thromboembolism is a condition in which clots form in the venous vessels, most commonly in the lower limbs. Subsequently, the detachment of a fragment of the thrombus, which is carried with the blood stream into vessels of smaller diameter, leads to their closure. The symptoms of embolism depend on which organ the embolic material enters.
