To the rescue of aching joints

When a joint hurts, we reflexively try to spare it - even though this does not reduce the discomfort at all. In addition, when the joint is not used, it becomes stiff and any movement becomes even more painful. The most important thing, therefore, is to alleviate the pain and treat the affected joint properly so that it can be moved again.

To make up for vitamin E deficiency, go for nuts, sunflower seeds, olive oil and avocado fruit, while selenium deficiency can be compensated by eating whole grains, eggs, yeast, fish, shellfish and meat. It is also good to remember to eat oily fish, i.e. salmon, herring, sardine or mackerel. It is these species that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are extremely important for our body.

And when it hurts..

Several treatment methods can be resorted to with joint pain. The most common is pharmacological treatment appropriate to the diagnosis. It may be supported by individual exercises, pool exercises, physical treatments (iontophoresis, cryotherapy, currents, magnetic fields, lasers, water and classic massages, mud packs). If the joint pain is caused by atrophy of joint cartilage, sulphide baths used in some spas, as well as dietary supplements containing glucosamine sulphate have a good effect on its regeneration, assures medical doctor Barbara Rymaszewska.

Treatment may also be supported by home remedies, which, however, should be consulted with the attending physician beforehand. Sometimes compresses, baths or compresses may be an alternative to a pain reliever. Just a massage combined with the power of a warming oil will bring relief. It is a good idea to prepare such a rubbing compound and keep it in the first aid kit at home. It is therefore worth taking care of our joints, and when worrying symptoms appear, it is advisable to consult a specialist.

Sometimes such pain may be a symptom of a completely different disease, such as fibromyalgia, where the generalised symptoms include muscle and joint pain, a feeling of stiffness accompanying them (often throughout the day), as well as fatigue (usually associated with insomnia and lowered mood). Therefore, we should remember about diet and exercise, and once in a while treat ourselves to a stay in a spa, as our joints will certainly appreciate such an investment in health.
