Psychotherapy for depression

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is derived from psychoanalysis, which is the oldest current in psychotherapy. The forerunners of other currents, which often arose in counterpoint to psychoanalysis, usually also received prior training in psychoanalysis or underwent their own psychotherapy in this paradigm. The founder of psychoanalysis was the famous Sigmund Freud, who developed his method to treat female patients with neurosis. He focused on the displacement and transformation of energy present in human drives and motivations, and explained the emergence of symptoms by abnormalities in this area.
