Healthy diet

Dietary choices during pregnancy are extremely important, as not all foods and products consumed by pregnant women have a beneficial effect on the body.

It would seem that diet does not depend on the individual periods of pregnancy, known as trimesters, however, which period of pregnancy you are currently in can help you, for example, to get rid of or at least alleviate pregnancy complaints.

Proper nutrition during pregnancy is of great importance not only for the health of the woman, but also for that of the baby. The impact of adverse environmental factors, including both deficiencies and excesses of nutrients, can lead to permanent modifications of metabolic and hormonal processes, which affect the health of the child later in life.

Nutrient excesses and deficiencies in foetal life result in the development of metabolic and cardiovascular complications in adulthood. During the first trimester of pregnancy, when nausea is strongly felt, it is advisable to limit the eating of fried foods and to abstain from coffee. When preparing meals, it is better to refrain from spicy and strong-smelling spices. Drink after the meal, not before it.

It is advisable to eat meals that are frequent but small in quantity. For breakfast, it is advisable to choose crisp bread and rusks. Women suffering from agonising vomiting should include ginger tea in their diet and supplement their fluids with water and vegetable juices, necessarily without sugar.

During the first trimester of pregnancy, it is necessary to increase the amount of vitamins and minerals in the diet, as the first trimester is crucial for the development of the foetus. You should try to eat a variety of lettuces, spinach, Chinese cabbage and broccoli, as these foods contain folic acid. Red peppers, Brussels sprouts, sauerkraut, parsley, citrus fruits and blackcurrants will provide the body with vitamin C.
