on 22 April, we celebrate International Earth Day. It is an annual event to promote environmental protection. The holiday was proclaimed by the United Nations and was first held in 1970.
Many events are held during International Earth Day to promote conservation, the most popular being litter picks and tree planting. The day is also an opportunity to improve awareness of the effects of environmental destruction, which include air pollution, water pollution and global warming.
How can we protect the environment every day?
It is worth remembering to protect nature every day, not just on Earth Day. The best way to start is to change your daily habits.
The first step could be to save water. Instead of taking a bath, we can take a short shower, and when brushing our teeth or shaving, turn off the tap.
The place where most electricity is consumed is the kitchen (approx. 40 %). Savings can already be made at the planning stage. A side-by-side arrangement of the fridge and cooker is not advantageous, as the heat from the cooker makes the fridge switch on more often and it needs to maintain a sufficiently low temperature.
We can also save the environment by making the right choices when shopping. When buying white goods, it is worth paying attention to the energy class, as A-class appliances use the least electricity.
When deciding to buy new furniture, it is worth paying attention to what it is made of and how it is made. Try to choose products made from recycled material. The reprocessing process saves 90 per cent of energy compared to manufacturing from newly created plastic.
Our home garden can also be eco-friendly by choosing plants that are natural to the ecosystem. In addition, let's not mow the lawn too low; a flowery meadow is a more eco-friendly solution. Water plants in the morning rather than during the day, when water evaporates faster. Use natural pest control products. A section of lawn can be used as a vegetable garden. It will give us a supply of fresh vegetables.
As you can see from the above examples, by doing the simplest things we can protect our environment. It is worth remembering them, as it is mainly up to us what the Earth will look like in a few hundred years.
