Multiple sc lerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. Ways to cure it are being sought all the time. Can a haematopoietic cell transplant stop the disease or reverse its symptoms?

Recent scientific reports show that transplantation of cells previously taken from sick people, which are then subjected to various treatments (e.g. stimulation with drugs) can lead to a halt in the progression of multiple sclerosis. Importantly, there is a chance of reversing the already visible symptoms of the disease.

Further research is currently underway to show at which stage of the disease (early, late) cells should be transplanted. Presumably, it would be best if patients were transplanted in the early phase of the disease - in such a situation, the degenerative changes in the central nervous system are not yet irreversible.
