Differentiation between these individuals can be made through various tests, such as cerebrospinal fluid composition analysis, among others. However, it is possible that the differential diagnosis of these neurological conditions will soon be greatly simplified - in February 2017, there were reports of the possibility of differentiating these entities by means of a blood test.
