Caesarean sections are an increasingly common choice for pregnant women. However, it is important to remember that it is a serious gynaecological operation. It is safe for the woman and the baby and is performed routinely. Some women have a scheduled caesarean section, others find out on the day of birth. The caesarean section procedure is performed in the operating theatre, in the presence of appropriate apparatus, and the whole procedure takes about 30 minutes.
