Milk teeth fall out after some time and permanent teeth appear in their place. This does not mean, however, that milk teeth do not need to be cared for.
It is necessary to brush these teeth thoroughly every day, to visit the dentist for check-ups and to have them treated if the tooth requires it and it is possible. It can happen that a deciduous tooth starts to hurt and the pain persists. A visit to the dentist is then necessary.
A milk tooth can become painful as a result of a bacterial infection of the tooth pulp, which in turn requires root canal treatment. Of course, in the case of children, it is not possible to clean, poison or fill the canals, as they are very thin.
It is nevertheless necessary to treat the tooth and try to save it. If the child's behaviour makes it impossible to treat the tooth and its condition is getting worse (swelling and pus), the decision is usually made to extract it. However, it is important to remember that extraction of milk teeth is not a solution; they should remain in the mouth as long as possible until they are replaced with permanent teeth.
