The endoscopic capsule is an increasingly popular diagnostic method of the gastrointestinal tract. It is also available in our country, and examinations using it are carried out not only in adults, but also in children. The common lay opinion is that this examination is completely non-invasive and safe, but this is not entirely true. The gastrointestinal capsule is quite large and many children are unable to swallow it. In this situation, its insertion requires the assistance of a gastroscope. In addition, the existence of inflammatory lesions of the Crohn's disease type in a child significantly increases the risk of the capsule getting stuck in one of the strictures of the digestive tract, which may even require urgent surgery. In patients with confirmed Crohn's disease, the risk of the capsule getting stuck in the intestines is estimated to be around 5%. This risk is even higher in malnourished children with disease involving the small intestine. It should also be emphasised that the fundamental disadvantage of the capsule is the inability to take sections for histopathological examination. Capsule examination provides only an image, which is often insufficient to make a diagnosis.
