Haemimelia is classified as a congenital anomaly, which is very rare. What are the causes and symptoms of this disease?

The defect is characterised by the absence of all or part of the distal part of the lower or upper limb. The affected person looks as if a limb has been severed. There are currently four types of haemimelia: fibular haemimelia, tibial haemimelia, radial haemimelia and ulnar haemimelia.
The cause of the development of this defect can be a disorder during embryogenesis or a spontaneous gene mutation (the defect can be inherited). It has been shown that certain teratogenic factors can increase the risk of this defect, such as viral infections during pregnancy or the use of certain drugs.
