The occurrence of mood and anxiety disorders is not uncommon among pregnant women. Unfortunately, most of them go untreated.
14.1% of the study group of 1,795 pregnant women were diagnosed with a mental disorder. 3.3% suffered from severe and 6.9% from mild depression. Anxiety disorders were observed in 6.6% of patients. All women with psychiatric disorders experienced significantly more somatic problems and experienced deeper anxiety before the birth of their child.
Only 5.5% of women requiring treatment received any form of therapy.
