The quality of fruit juices and nectars in Poland is regulated by the current regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of 30 September 2003 on detailed requirements concerning the commercial quality of fruit juices and nectars (Journal of Laws No. 177, item 1735, as amended).

In the regulation, we can find out, among other things, how Polish law defines what are juices and what are fruit nectars and in what quantities they can be sweetened with sugar or other sweeteners.

The wide range of products on offer and the high level of competition among juice producers means that they often forget about us, the consumers, and break the law, but there are quality control institutions and the results are published on their websites.

For example, in Poland, there is the Voluntary Control System for juices and nectars, which is an example of self-control in the industry. It is an entity within the National Union of Juice Producers (KUPS) and is designed to protect consumers from unfair practices. On the KUPS website (or in the link below), you can find out which companies in Poland belong to the DSK and thus comply with the regulations for the production of safe and tasty juices.

When going to the shop to buy juice, it is best to choose one with a well-known brand and with the 100% label. When buying nectar, you have to reckon with the fact that it is a mixture of water and concentrate, and we should look at the content of, for example, vitamin C in individual juices with a pinch of salt, because in most cases it is overstated. The consumer will never get true information about a product. In the same way, the laboratories that test juices will not give the whole truth about a product to the public. Of course, the best way to drink 'real' juice is to make it yourself from fresh fruit. Only then will we know what we are drinking.
