Influenza is classified as an infectious disease of the respiratory system. It is caused by infection with an influenza virus. It is transmitted by the droplet route and the highest incidence occurs in autumn and winter. Three types of influenza virus are currently known: A (occurs in humans and animals and causes severe illness), B (occurs only in humans) and C (occurs in humans and pigs).
Influenza always requires complete treatment as it can lead to serious complications, even death. When home remedies for flu symptoms fail, a visit to the doctor and treatment (sometimes a stay in a hospital ward) is necessary. Influenza is particularly dangerous for children and people with weakened immunity.
