Many people, on returning from school, work or shopping, feel exhausted.
In most cases, this is not a symptom of a disease. However, it does happen that the patient experiences a chronic state of physical and mental weakness, which we call asthenia. Asthenia is caused by disorders of the nervous system and occurs in the course of depression, neuroses, psychoses or schizophrenia. It may also occur in patients who are malnourished, those with cachexia, endocrine disorders, organ failure (kidneys, liver) or those taking certain medications.
