Many patients with chronic pain that can be burning, stabbing or pinching involving the arms, hands, legs and feet may suffer from multisymptom local pain syndrome (reflex modern dystrophy, causalgia).
This usually occurs as a result of nerve damage, which may occur during surgery, a fall or trauma. Symptoms encountered in patients include skin changes, weakness, rapid fatigability, sensitivity to touch and swelling. Diagnosis is made on the basis of a patient interview and after examination of the nervous system, bone imaging, radiography and MRI. On this basis, the doctor initiates the appropriate treatment for the patient.
