Pertussis(whooping cough) is an acute infectious respiratory disease caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. It is transmitted by the droplet route - through coughing, sneezing or close contact with a sick person. It is one of the most infectious childhood diseases: one person can infect up to a dozen others.
