Since the beginning of the pandemic, scientists, in collaboration with doctors, have been searching for an effective treatment for the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. There were many indications that hydroxychloroquine, a component of anti-malarial drugs, would prove effective against the new pathogen. Unfortunately, this was premature optimism.
