Endoscopic sinus surgery is currently regarded as one of the best and most modern methods to treat inflammatory conditions of the paranasal sinuses. The patient is qualified for the procedure by a specialist laryngologist.
Endoscopic sinus surgery - Symptoms and course
More and more patients are experiencing sinus problems, which most often occur in the autumn and winter. They therefore visit an ENT specialist. In many cases, the disease is unfortunately very inflamed, requiring not only antibiotics, but also radiation or biopsies. This inflammation leads to severe headaches, nasal and eye pain, breathing problems and dizziness.
When to go to the doctor and cure
If any problems occur, they should be reported as soon as possible to an ENT doctor.
Endoscopic sinus surgery - Treatment
What do we know about endoscopic sinus surgery?
The main aim of endoscopic sinus surgery is to remove mucous membranes that have been altered by long-term inflammation, to create a wide and well-functioning connection between the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses and, consequently, to decongest them. The patient's anatomical structures are not affected, as the procedure is carried out using specially manufactured microsurgical instruments.
During the procedure, any lesions from the paranasal sinuses are removed very carefully. Before the procedure, the ENT surgeon, takes a thorough history of the patient and orders an X-ray of the sinuses. In case of doubt, a CT scan of the nose and paranasal sinuses and any additional tests, e.g. blood, urine or chest X-ray, are performed. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia, and the patient must comply with any rules set by the doctor both before and after the procedure.
