Some people turn their noses up at this so-called relic of communism. The truth is that this is how the holiday came about. Despite this, we have to celebrate because it is a public holiday. And if we are already 'forced' to have a day without work, well, that's hard....

Perhaps in a few years' time, everyone will be convinced that we are celebrating a holiday called the Long Weekend (regardless of what we would be celebrating then). Then the problem will have solved itself.

Let us respect our work. Let's learn to appreciate it every day and in every way. Let's not turn our noses up at getting up in the morning and say: I don't like Mondays. Let's have a holiday every day, and let's just take 1 May as a day off.
