Complications after a myocardial infarction take various forms, the most serious being mechanical damage requiring surgical intervention, although some of these may be asymptomatic and detected incidentally on follow-up ECG. These, however, carry a very high risk of death, so prompt diagnosis, based on ECG examination and treatment, is essential.
