Periodontology, is the science that deals with the periodontium, i.e. all the tissues responsible for surrounding the tooth and maintaining it in the alveolus. The proper condition of the periodontal tissues is crucial in maintaining healthy and strong teeth. When periodontal tissues are damaged (by injury, cutting, crushing, improper hygiene, disease) our teeth are not safe. It is therefore worth taking special care of the health of periodontal tissues as well as the teeth themselves.
