Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory process that involves blood vessels - the accumulation of lipoproteins on the walls results in the formation of fatty bands and consequently atherosclerotic lesions that narrow the lumen of the blood vessel. Throughout this process, immune cells play a significant part, contributing to the development of the disease.
